STC, about to enter its SEVENTEENTH year, is an informal readings series that offers singers opportunities to work through complete scores with like-minded colleagues. It’s the next step after your solo preparatory work in the studio!
Our FAQs:
Open to all singers based on audition/prior work with Director: entry-level, young professionals, seasoned artists. STC attracts excellent singers with high standards who work at a professional level
READING dates are based on a consensus of availability reached after a poll is taken from the pool of prospective singer candidates
There are no rehearsals per se. Singers prepare individually, then meet to read
Tailor-made for you: review, prepare for performance or try out new repertoire
Cost is about the same as coaching the role on your own BUT WITH A READING AS YOUR GOAL
Informal closed sessions, no audience pressure and no memorization necessary, but ready to sing: like a working rehearsal. Readings are held on Saturdays or Sundays 4 PM - 8 PM at our studio at Broadway & 98th Street
There is a refreshment break to which everyone contributes something (BYO if we’re online!)

Basic fees: depending on the size of a role, you may be offered a coaching package that starts from a range of 3 (or more) down to 1.5 hours in total. In addition, when applicable, there will be recitative group sessions , and total package fee is dependent again on the size of the role and on whether you want more coaching than is offered in any of the packages, as of 2021.
Coachings beyond the first 3 are @ $65/hr.
Reminder that some smaller roles needing fewer coaching hours will cost less, as will a role that is a review; this is TBD in conjunction with Director.
